Everly Mag talked to Kelly Grace all about dancing, acting, friendships, social media, and inspiration.
Everly Mag: How did you start dancing?
Kelly: It came naturally to me. When I was a toddler, I was always moving to the music whenever I heard it. It was really funny for my mother, because I was always saying I was doing ballet while spinning around and [asking her] to let me dance. [My mom] put me in ballet classes when I was 3 years old.
As I grew up, I always wanted to expand my range of styles and I knew I had a passion for dance instantly.
Everly Mag: What’s your favorite style to dance and why?
Kelly: This is always a tough question because I love all styles! If I had to choose my top favorite though, it would be hip-hop or contemporary. Hip-hop can have so many vibes at once, and when I’m dancing hip-hop, I always feel the beat inside me and how it makes everyone feel hype and want to start dancing as well.
Contemporary is also my top favorite because [it] lets my emotions come across. I can portray different stories and characters, just like acting, and affect the viewers’ emotions.
Everly Mag: What’s the biggest challenge you face in dance?
Kelly: My biggest challenge is consistently changing my movement so that it doesn’t look the same every time. This can be hard because sometimes the music is very similar to other [songs] you have danced to, but the choreographer wants a different vibe.

Everly Mag: How did you get your start in acting?
Kelly: I first started acting in 2015. I was in A Christmas Carol playing Elizabeth Cratchit, and I couldn’t get enough of it! My first role in a television show was on Nickelodeon’s Game Shakers as a recurring role, and I will forever be grateful for that experience.
Everly Mag: What’s your favorite acting project so far?
Kelly: My favorite project to work on so far is probably Walk the Prank because I got to work with all my friends and I had so much fun with my character.
Everly Mag: Tell us about the set of Walk the Prank. How are you and your character Helen alike and different?
Kelly: The set was super friendly and fun. I was friends with the cast before I booked the role, so I loved the experience of hanging out with my friends while on the job. The set was elaborate on the Joke Shop since it was filled with inside jokes with the cast and we all joked around while we were in our trailers.

My character Helen had the cutest nickname, “Smellin’ Helen,” and we are both sweet and friendly. We are different because [Helen] is sort of smelly but I take care of my hygiene consistently! Also, she got in a fight with her best friend over something really little, and I would never do that.
Everly Mag: What are the easiest and hardest parts of acting on a TV show?
Kelly: The easiest part of acting on a TV show is becoming the character and filming the scenes. The hardest part is doing school without running lines through your head.
Everly Mag: Describe your personality in 5 words.
Kelly: Talkative, funny, cheerful, outgoing, and intelligent.
Everly Mag: What do you look for in a friend? What do you like to do with your friends?
Kelly: I look for a friend who has a sense of humor, loves to talk about anything and everything, [and] someone who is loyal. I love to go to the mall with my friends, watch movies and TV shows, have dance parties, and just laugh a whole bunch!
Everly Mag: What makes you happiest?
Kelly: Spending time with my family and friends (and my dog) makes me super happy. Another thing that makes me happy is performing for others. I am also the happiest if I have a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie with a glass of milk at the end of the day.

Everly Mag: Who inspires you in your acting and dance career?
Kelly: For acting, I take inspiration from Kristen Bell, Dove Cameron, Reese Witherspoon, and Jennifer Lawrence. For dance, I am inspired by favorite choreographers such as Brian Friedman, Travis Wall, and Blake McGrath.
Everly Mag: What do you want your career to look like in 5 years?
Kelly: I want to be a regular in a TV series, be in a major feature film, and be able to meet more of my supporters.
Everly Mag: What are the most positive and negative parts of social media for teens today? What can teens and adults do to help make social media a better place?
Kelly: The most positive part of social media for teens today is that it enables people to be creative and inspire each other throughout the platform. The most negative part is when people get body-shamed or bullied for being who they are.
The best thing teens and adults can do to make social media a better place is to be positive and to never doubt themselves. Everyone is special and deserves happiness!
Everly Mag: What are 3 fun facts about you that might surprise us?
Kelly: I have watched [the movie] Legally Blonde over 20 times! Also, most people don’t know that I used to be obsessed with feather boas. A third fun fact is that my alarm is actually a playlist and I start my mornings by singing along with songs and dancing!
