Interview: Alexa and Katie’s Finn Carr

This spring, Finn Carr is headed to the Netflix screen as one of the leads in the streaming network’s newest original series, Alexa & Katie.

Finn plays Jack Cooper, the younger brother to Isabel May‘s Katie, on the high school comedy.  The series focuses on best friends Alexa & Katie, who “confront a crisis that leaves them feeling like outsiders” just as they begin their freshman year of high school (IMDB).  The series premieres on Netflix on March 23, and viewers can watch Finn’s character Jack take part in lots of antics.

Everly Mag talked to Finn Carr all about Alexa & Katie, how he got started in the business, and his advice for aspiring child actors.

Everly Mag: How did you get your start in acting?

Finn: I started acting because my older brother, Elliott, is an actor and I wanted to do everything like him.  I’m not shy, so acting was very fun and exciting for me.  My first role was on [the show] Hot in Cleveland.  I loved meeting and working with Betty White!

Everly Mag: Tell us about your upcoming Netflix series, Alexa & Katie.  How does your character Jack fit into the world of the show?

Finn: Alexa & Katie is a great family show that is funny and serious at times.  It is about two best friends named Alexa and Katie.

I play Katie’s younger brother, Jack, [who is] wild and adventurous.  He likes to have fun and isn’t afraid to get into a little trouble.

Everly Mag: How are you and your character Jack similar?  How are you different?

Finn: I’m very similar to my character Jack.  We are both wild, crazy, mischievous, and not shy at all.  I think the big difference [between us] is that Jack wears loose, oversized clothes and I like skinny jeans and more form-fitting clothes.

Everly Mag: What’s the best and hardest part about filming Alexa & Katie?

Finn: My favorite part about filming is hanging out with the cast, crew, and live audience!  I guess the hardest part is having to get up early and having to say goodbye at the end of the season.

Everly Mag: What can audiences expect when watching the show?

Finn: They should expect to laugh, and maybe cry, but mostly laugh.  And, to fall in love with the awesome characters and their families!

Everly Mag: What advice do you have for kids who want to become actors?

Finn: If you want to act you should go for it and don’t let anything hold you back!  Be confident in yourself.

Everly Mag: What are your hopes for the future of your acting career?

Finn: Someday, I’d like to play a more serious role, or be in a scary movie!  I’m so happy to be working for Netflix!  And, I’d love to work with Jim Carrey someday!  He’s hilarious!

Alexa & Katie premieres on Netflix on March 23, 2018.
