Get to know one of Everly Mag’s aspiring influencer contest winners, Lia!
Lia, 15, hails from the United States. She’s passionate about lacrosse, flute, and reading. Lacrosse has shaped her life and made her who she is today. She’s been playing flute for 6 years, and has met so many people within the flute community. She loves reading and exploring all the worlds that authors have created in their minds.
What does Lia love about Everly Mag?* She loves that Everly Mag lets her have a voice and encourages others to speak out about what they believe in. She loves the non-judgmental, supportive environment – something she believes we need in today’s world. She loves that Everly Mag stands for spreading positivity and happiness, just like she does!
What would Lia do if she woke up to 1 million followers?* She would first thank her followers, because it’s important to hold onto the fact that she wasn’t always at one million. She would also create an organization for those who are less fortunate to be able to play sports. She believes that in every family who never had the chance to play a sport they wanted to play as a kid, that is one less Olympian being made. The time kids have to play sports helps them in so many ways and lets them have fun, which kids need. The last thing she would do is let her voice be heard about topics like gun control and women’s rights, which are of utmost importance to her, and she’d be grateful to make her voice heard.
Everly Mag interviewed Lia about social media, who inspires her, what it means to be an influencer, and more!
Everly Mag: Describe your personality in 5 words.
Lia: Energetic, passionate, outgoing, genuine, expressive.
Everly Mag: When and why did you start using social media? What social networks do you use?
Lia: I started using social media when I was around 13. I actually got on it just because my friends were all doing it, but it has become so much more to me than just a recreational app. I use Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook.
Everly Mag: What’s your favorite social network or app and why?
Lia: My favorite would have to be Instagram, because there are so many ways you can express yourself through the app.
Everly Mag: What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about social media?
Lia: Using social media to be a positive influence on the world makes me feel so happy inside. I believe if everyone spread a little bit of kindness every day through a comment, text, or DM, the world would be so much kinder.
However, there is a downside to social media, and that is the fact that you have absolutely no restrictions on what you post. That is so scary. Even though your words can empower, they can also [be destructive], and we need to be mindful of that.
Everly Mag: How can teens make social media a better place?
Lia: We are the future generation, and I believe that we are only going to get better as a community by making the most of the time we have as young teens. We can make social media a better place by spreading positivity always, and by being mindful of those around us.
Everly Mag: What are 3 goals you have for your future?
Lia: To graduate college, become a teacher, and spread positivity wherever I go.
Everly Mag: What’s one piece of advice you have for teens who want to spread positivity on social media?
Lia: Never let ANYONE get in the way of what you want and what you aspire to be.
Everly Mag: Share one quote that inspires you.
Lia: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” – Wayne Gretzky
Everly Mag: Who are your top 3 role models?
Lia: My family, my coaches, and my friends.
Everly Mag: What does it mean to you to be an influencer?
Lia: An influencer doesn’t have to always be a big, amazing person that everyone knows. An influencer can be someone you see in the world [who] inspires you – someone who holds the door for an elderly person, or someone who helps someone else stop crying.
Everly Mag: How could you change the world as an influencer?
Lia: If I became a popular influencer, I would make it my priority to spread happiness and empower others to reach their full potential.
Everly Mag: Lastly, tell us one thing about you that might surprise our readers.
Lia: I’ve tried at least 15 sports in my entire life!
Thanks, Lia, for such an engaging and positive interview!
