This week, we caught up with Dylan Huey, otherwise known as Rodin’ Flash. He is a sixteen-year-old singer and producer and also an aspiring actor. He produces EDM/pop songs (Check out “With You” here!). In June 2015, he released his debut E, called the Royal EP, which consisted of five pop songs. Since then, he continued to show his love and passion by producing a second EP which came out on December 10, 2015.

Everly Mag: What first inspired you to make EDM music?

Dylan: When I was five, my mom enrolled me in classical piano lessons. Then, when I was eleven, I started learning how to play the guitar. During the summer before sixth grade, I started to experiment with producing music online. That’s basically how I got into EDM: I was simply bored on a summer afternoon so I decided to download LogicPro and make a few tunes! My music production has definitely improved since then.

Everly Mag: What inspired the stage-name Rodin’ Flash?

Dylan: As a kid, I loved video games! In fifth grade, I was addicted to this game called Minecraft, and, in Minecraft, there was something called “rotten flesh” that you received when you killed zombies. Apparently, I thought that the phrase “rotten flesh” was so cool because five minutes later I was like, “Rodin’ Flash it is!”

Everly Mag: What artists do you look up to?

Dylan: There are so many artists I look up to. However, I’d say the Chainsmokers are my biggest influence. Their music is super chill and you just want to play it on repeat all day long! That’s the type of music I try to make as well. Both Drew and Alex are super down to earth, humble, and kind to all their fans. It’s amazing how much they’ve grown in the last few years and how their music has inspired millions of people around the world.

Everly Mag: Can you give our readers some tips as to how to get their own start in the entertainment industry? What have you learned in the past few years?

Dylan: There are so many things I have learned about the entertainment industry and so many more things I have yet to learn. However, I think the biggest thing I have learned is to take every opportunity you are given no matter h

ow big or how small. Everything happens for a reason, so it’s important to take every opportunity you can get. Also, it’s important to love what you’re doing. If you don’t love what you do, then it’s important to find something that you do enjoy because, in the end, it’s all about having fun!

Everly Mag: What do you like to do outside of making music? What are your hobbies?

Dylan: Outside of making music, I enjoy playing sports and staying active! I also enjoy interacting with you guys who support me every single day!

Everly Mag: What are your goals for the future of your career?

Dylan: My main goal as of right now is to just release more music. That’s my main focus! However, after I get a few more tracks out there, I want to go on tour and hopefully one day I want to sell out a stadium tour. That’s been a longtime dream of mine.

Everly Mag: What are you most excited about right now?

Dylan: I am excited to announce the title and cover art of my debut album very, very soon! I’ve been working so hard on it and putting in several months in the studio to perfect each and every song. It’s definitely a new style and vibe from my old music, and it’s something I am very proud of!

Everly Mag: You have gained a large social media following on multiple platforms. Which social media platform have you found to be most receptive to you and your work? 

Dylan: My most receptive platform is definitely Musical.ly. I love live streaming and posting on there because I know there are so many supportive fans on that app who will watch my videos and stream no matter what! I also think Spotify is awesome in regards to my music! I love Spotify and it’s just amazing! My favorite app right now is definitely Instagram because it is way easier to talk to my supporters on Instagram and I’m on it 24/7.

Everly Mag: Can you list three favorite pieces that you have produced recently?

Dylan: Yes! Although I cannot yet release the names of my favorite songs on my upcoming album, my favorite pieces that are currently out are definitely “With You,” “Trust Issues,” and “Run.” If you haven’t taken a look at those songs yet, you definitely should! I would recommend you send the links to those songs to your friends and family as well!

Everly Mag: What artists or songs will you be listening to this summer (outside of yourself)?

Dylan: The Chainsmokers, Jake Miller, Jon Bellion, Blackbear, Quinn XCII, and EDEN are just a few artists that I will be adding to my summer playlist!
