Sometimes I really think I need a break from others and I like to do things alone. When I was younger, I always thought it was weird when I saw people doing things alone, but now I understand. I really value my time alone, and just because you are alone, does not mean you are lonely. This time away from others makes you more independent, as you have to do things on your own. Hanging out by yourself is awesome, and more people should feel comfortable doing it! No one is judging you or thinks you’re lame, and you’ll become more confident the more you do it. If you want to become more confident than you need to slowly push yourself to do more things by yourself. Testing the waters will help you see your limits.
Here are a few things I think you should do if you want to start spending more quality time alone:
Catch a movie!
If you’re looking for a great place to catch up on some solo time, then a movie theater is the perfect place to go to. You can immerse yourself in the movie you’re watching with no distractions. It is surprisingly (or not so surprisingly) enjoyable to watch a movie without commentary from the people you’re with. You can eat your snacks, and catch the whole plot of the film, and also get some quality time with yourself. Also, you may be lucky enough to get there early and pick whichever seat you want!
Go for a hike!
Personally, this is one of my favorite things to do alone. If you’re going to go alone, I recommend going on a trail you’re comfortable with, so you don’t get lost. You can decide to wear headphones and walk to the beat of your own music. You also can walk at your own pace, and don’t have to worry about keeping up with anyone else. Hiking alone is a great way to get fresh air, gain clarity, and to destress!

Take a workout class!
Working out alone can be really fun! Look up classes or gyms in your area, and find a workout that sounds interesting to you. Luckily, a lot of classes are easy to “drop-in” too, so you can try it out, see if you like it, and if not, you don’t have to do it again! This is awesome for people who aren’t sure what kind of workout is right for them. Being alone will make you focus on yourself more, and you can set goals for yourself, and milestones you’d like to reach!
Bake!
I find baking to be a very therapeutic and fun hobby. Dessert mix that’s in a box is one of my go-tos, because it is very simple to make. You also don’t need too many ingredients so you won’t have to go out of your way to find what you need. You can play some music, listen to a podcast, or watch your favorite show while you mix together your recipe, and then wait for it to bake. You also can surprise your friends or family with a sweet treat that you made.
