Paxton Booth talks “Coop & Cami” and how he got his start in acting!

You may recognize Paxton Booth as the daring and hilarious Ollie Wrather from Disney Channel’s original series Coop & Cami Ask The World. Season 2 premiered last October and has the audience constantly tuning in for more of the Wrather family’s adventures.

We talked to Paxton all about acting, Coop & Cami, his interests outside of show business, and so much more!

Everly Mag: How’d you get your start in acting?

Paxton: My parents said I started speaking well at a young age, so they thought it was a good idea for me to try out a few commercials. I booked my first one when I was three and I’ve been working ever since.

Everly Mag: Who are your acting role models?

Paxton: I’m a big fan of Jim Carrey. He has such an awesome range, with both physical humor and drama. I also like Bill Murray and his hilarious dry comedy.

Everly Mag: How do you relate to Ollie on Coop & Cami Ask The World?

Paxton: Ollie and I are both adventurous and aren’t afraid to try new things. We both would do anything for our families. However, Ollie likes slime and gross gags and I’m more into the stunts that aren’t so messy. I don’t mind doing the dirty stuff—I just always need to have some hand wipes ready offstage!

Everly Mag: What’s been your favorite moment of filming the series?

Paxton: In Season 1, I got to ride a donkey on set for an entire scene. His name was Peanut and he was the cutest co-star ever. During one of the takes, he didn’t go to his mark. Instead, he went over to a hot pink cake and started eating it. It made for a great blooper reel.

Everly Mag: What do you hope viewers enjoy in the second season?

Paxton: I’m excited for people to see Ollie grow up a little. We see him show off some hidden talents and take on more responsibility.

Everly Mag: Tell us how you started doing your own stunts.

Paxton: It wasn’t something I was specifically asked to do. It was written in the script and [the crew] asked if I was able to do them. I jumped at the chance and they’ve been writing in my stunts ever since. It’s exciting for me, not scary. We have an awesome stunt coordinator that walks me through each step and makes sure I’m comfortable before I even start. I rehearse the stunt several times before we start shooting, just to get all the steps right.

Everly Mag: What do you do when you’re not acting?

Paxton: I love cars and spend most of my summer weekends cruising car shows. Collecting Hot Wheels is also a big hobby of mine. Right now, my collection is over 1,400 and still going! I also really enjoy reading, hanging out with my friends, and riding BMX bikes with my dad.

My dad was the editor of a BMX magazine and he rides all the time. I got my first BMX bike when I was three and we’ve been riding together ever since. We spend most of my days off shredding skate parks and dirt jumps. It’s my favorite thing to do with my dad.

Everly Mag: What advice would you give kids who want to become actors?

Paxton: Make sure it’s something you really want to do, because you and your family will make some sacrifices. Also, more importantly, you need to be okay with hearing no. You’ll hear “no” way more than you’ll hear “yes”. And that’s okay. It’s all part of the process. Just make sure to learn from each rejection.

Everly Mag: What’s up next for you?

Paxton: I’m really excited to start a virtual book club on my Instagram. I’m a big reader and I’d love for other kids to read along with me so we can discuss the books as we go!
